Greater China funding halves
Following a robust Q1, fundraising by Greater China-based startups plummeted in Q2 2024, reaching levels not seen since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to the latest report by DealStreetAsia — DATA VANTAGE.
Startups in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau raised just over $9 billion in Q2, a 54.9% decrease from the previous quarter, according to Greater China Deal Review: Q2 2024. Deal volume fell 14.6% sequentially to 525 deals.
Funding raised by Greater China’s startups
As global investors continue to be cautious about deploying new capital, Chinese state-backed investors have increased their support for domestic startups. Legend Holdings emerged as the most active investor in Q2, participating in 12 deals, while CICC Capital funded eight startups during the period.
